Tattingstone Primary School, in Suffolk has won the Record RSS ‘Think it, Design it’ 2007-2008 Schools Competition, run in conjunction with Child Education PLUS and Junior Education PLUS.

Their winning entry ‘Underwater Playground’ featured a Starfish roundabout, Shark slide and Octopus slide.

Pupils of Class 3, aged between 9 and 11 years, came up with all the designs themselves, and carefully drew and wrote down information on all the materials, textures and colours that would be used in the final design of the playground equipment. This well thought out design with its innovative ideas and themes, along with unusual slants on contemporary play equipment, such as the Starfish roundabout, all contributed to Tattingstone Primary School being named the winner of the competition. The judges at Record RSS also felt that the pupils at Tattingstone best understood the brief set out at the beginning of the competition and created a well thought out and inventive design that any child would be proud to play on.

However, there was tough opposition from other runners up, such as a 'Pirate Playground' from Bamford School, an 'Ancient Egyptian playground' from Rettendon Primary School and Lightwater School’s 'Elephant Playground'.

Each of the runners up will receive a framed artist’s impression of their playground design from Record RSS and be awarded a bundle of reading books on behalf of Child Education PLUS and Junior Education PLUS.

Douglas Belfield, Sales Director of Record RSS comments; “It was a difficult decision to make, as all the entries were of a high standard, but after hours of careful consideration, we felt that Tattingstone Primary School’s entry was the most unique and imaginative. Class 3 has shown a great understanding of how the playground could be used, and it was felt to be the most eye-catching design.  I would also like to take this opportunity of thanking everyone for entering the competition; we enjoyed looking through every entry and thank you all for your time and hard work on this.”

Tattingstone’s Underwater Playground, along with all the other entries submitted, is a testament to the power of children’s imagination and the importance of play within their school life. Tattingstone can now look forward to £10,000 worth of playground equipment being installed this year by Record RSS. Look out for our review on this playground in Child Education PLUS and Junior Education PLUS this summer!
